My journey to India

Like most of my student I went to my first yoga class to feel better as an accumulation of misaligned posture through out the day (see picture on the right). Back in January 2012, I spent a long time sitting in front of the computer winding my head in a knot with scientific jargons while I was studying my MA Psychology degree at Edinburgh University. The hours I put into my work seemed to be unrelated to my performance. Everyday I became more and more stress physically and psychologically. After attending my first yoga class, I felt my physical and psychological knots were untangled. I didn't realise then, but one class wasn't enough as I quickly accumulate more knots throughout the day.

My exploration of yoga began with Hot Yoga as you can imagine it was very cold in Scotland. Then I began to explore with Ashtanga yoga, Iyengar Yoga, Yin Yoga, Bikram Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Aerial Yoga, and a variety of yoga props. Exposed to a variety of yoga, I became very interested in alignment as a Yogi. However, the winter weather often kept me indoor rather than on my yoga mat so I started to develop a home practise. I became very enthusiastic about Ashtanga Yoga were heat is generated within and accessible wherever I travel to in the world. The representative sequence gave me a great deal of comfort and a sense of achievement. At first I wanted to share this sense of bliss during my Christmas Crisis volunteering for the homeless so I began to search for teacher training.

In India, at Himalaya Yoga Valley Centre, I built a stable foundation in correct alignment as an Ashtanga yoga teacher. My yoga practise began with long hours of cross legged sitting in the yoga shalla, where I learned that sitting is where all yoga began. Everyday I sat and learned about yoga as a whole. Yoga includes meditation, breath work, philosophy, anatomy, Indian tradition, Indian culture and last but not least, the signature Ashtanga asana poses. There I realised, one can be sitting down without entangling one's mind and body in a knot where nothing but stress is experienced.

After my fulfilling journey to India, I continue to develop a dynamic practise with a strong inward focus as a Yogi and a Yoga Teacher in England, Cambridge. As a yoga teacher, I am passionate about sharing my experience about Yoga and how this is related to Science. I am extremely dedicated to create a nurturing and safe environment for students in different walks of life. To support students with exploration of the body, mind and spirit whatever they might be open to experience.

I am proudly providing Yoga classes for elderly residences in care homes, support workers at Scope, private small group students, and private one-to-one students. Regular Monday Warm Vinyasa class and Hot Ashtanga yoga at the Self centre in Bury St Edmunds. Regular Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday Hot Pod Flow and Nurturing Flow at Hot Pod Saffron Walden.
